Five TVs, no dining table and a sword: A look at a PGA Tour winner's 'sicko' home
A handful of years ago, we did a feature on the golfer’s paradise that is Jupiter, Florida, and noticed that Tiger Woods, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy and Ernie Els all resided in the sport’s coolest town. When Michael Jordan was planning out the Grove XXIII, “the Jupiter area was the only place he considered.” And yet, all that pales in comparison to Ryan Gerard’s Jupiter dwelling, which is both terrifying and awesome.
This inside look at the PGA Tour winner’s humble abode deserves a Pulitzer Prize for Public Service journalism. Where else could you see someone living so many golf sickos’ dreams, while also admitting to disappointing one's parents? Also, to be clear, this isn’t just on Gerard; he lives with Korn Ferry Tour pro Austin Hitt and a caddie as well.
There’s no dining room table, and it’s “light on decorations.” But that’s mostly because the crew needed more room for putting mats and “big TVs.” There are five televisions in total, as well as some other “toys” (like surround sound and multiple speaker systems) and a cup collection from various courses Gerard's played. And if you’re worried about dishes, the man’s got plates.
“My goal this year is to buy a cup from every golf course we go to,” he explains. “So I'll actually have enough cups for the end of the year. I understand the importance of having cups in my house. I’m working on the problem.
“I have a couple plates. I think we have seven big plates. Four or five small plates. So this is what we're working with.”
When asked by Smylie Kaufman why he doesn’t have a dining table, Gerard answered that the putting mats obviously had to come first, turning “the second half of the dining room into a man cave.”
In total, the home is jubillee of golf paraphernalia, from the YETI cooler footrest to a PGA-Tour-partner Blackstone grill. Gerard doesn’t do too much cooking, though, after setting off the smoke detector one too many times.
The pièce de résistance is, of course, the Japanese samurai sword Gerard picked up at the Baycurrent Classic last year, now hanging in his bedroom. Things may/will change when he’s married, but for now, golf is Ryan Gerard’s significant other … and that’s pretty obvious when you get a glance at where he lives.
